Texas Vacation in Pictures

I would've loved to make a snazzy slide show, but I've got a couple devoted readers using dial-up. So I'll try to make up some snazzy captions to make up for it. :)

We had such a great time in Texas! After an uneventful (thank you, God!) trip down there Wednesday, we relaxed at Gabe & Susie's until dinnertime. They took us to Joe Cotton's Barbecue for dinner. What an experience! They serve your dinner on a sheet of butcher paper--that's right, no plates! It was yummy.

On Thursday we slept in a little & had continental breakfast, followed by a few hours at the beach. It was fairly overcast and windy, but really warm. We northerners don't need lots of sun just yet anyway! Here's Livvie, enjoying a little spoiling by Grandma Susie.

Livvie looked adorable in cousin Avery's shades! She knew it, too! Her favorite part was chasing the seagulls all over the beach.

Olivia did NOT care for the sand. At all. And don't even mention the water! I gotta give her that one, though... it was pretty cold!

Family pic... minus most of Nate!

Lovin' her some Daddy! She was just afraid he was going to put her down!

Nate & Gabe grabbed their boogie boards and hit the waves. Crazy guys. Despite our own words of caution, Nate neglected to apply his sunscreen. He paid for it later.

Olivia LOVED her baby cousin, Avery. She was convinced that Avery needed her pacifier at all times. She gave her lots of pats on the back. And Avery was jealous of Livvie's hair--she kept grabbing handfuls of it!

Thursday night we enjoyed an authentic Mexican feast at La Taquiera Guadelajara. Best Mexican food I've ever eaten, hands down. We ate til we were in pain.

This is Spohn Hospital, where I was born.

On Friday morning "the girls" & I did Mary Kay facials & makeovers, and then Harmony treated everyone to lunch at one of her favorite places, Executive Surf Club. I had fried shrimp and battered french fries. (That's right, battered!) Vvvvvvvery good. We checked out the Surf Club Museum after that and then headed over to the aquarium.

We spent Friday afternoon at Texas State Aquarium, which was a big hit! Olivia loved all the different kinds of "shish." We even saw a dolphin show!

Checking out the "shish" with Grandma Susie.

Friday night we had pizza by our hotel's pool and went for a swim.

Livvie, me, & Susie... Saturday morning on our way out!

Our trip back home went fine, until we got to Chicago. We arrived at Midway airport around 3:30; our Detroit-bound flight was scheduled to depart at 6:15. Not a bad length of time, especially with a toddler! We browsed the shops & had a bite to eat, and then we headed back to our gate. The sign read, "Delayed." Great. We learned that the inbound flight had required some mechanical repairs and would arrive around 7:10.

Around 7:30, the gate attendant announced that the plane was [and I quote] "broken," and would not be going to Detroit. The next available aircraft would be available at 8:30. Sigh. We walked around some more, got Olivia something to eat, and waited. The plane took off at 9. That's 10 Michigan time, and almost 3 hours past our original departure time! We had camped out in the airport for 5.5 hours. The flight took only 50 minutes or so, but by the time we de-planed, got our luggage, shuttled back to our vehicle, and got home, it was midnight. WOW. We were exhausted!

Well, TX clan, we had a terrific time with y'all! Wish we could've stayed longer. Thanks for everything!
