New & Improved (cheaper) Diaper Genie

When Olivia was smaller, we used our diaper genie faithfully and thankfully. However, it wasn't long before the cost of the refills started adding up! Granted, she doesn't need to be changed nearly as often as she did in those early months. Still, at $6 per refill... I can think of LOTS of better things to do with that money! We've resorted--okay, I've resorted--to placing each soiled diaper into a plastic grocery bag and then tossing it into the diaper genie. If necessary, I put a couple drops of tea tree oil onto a cotton ball and toss that in to squelch the odor. Works for us!
What about you? Diaper genie fan or not?

I got a generic diaper pail before Luke was born. It just used regular trash bags, and I never had a problem with the smell. Something went wrong with the lid though after a year or so, and I just pitched it. Ever since, I just put diapers in a plastic grocery bag, tie it tight, and throw it in the garbage. The garbage goes out pretty often, so it's never really a problem. Now that I'll be changing diapers a lot more often, I debated whether I shoudl get another diaper pail, but decided against it.

We just take them outside and drop them in the dumpster daily. The bad thing about this plan is that I normally attach the bag to the back of our CR-V and sometimes forget to stop at the dumpster. So classy to be driving around with poopy diapers on the back of our vehicle.

I use the diaper champ. It uses any kind of garbage bag. Although stinky diapers go in the trash, usually in a wal-mart bag to make a barrier for the smell. I also have put baking soda in the diaper champ to obsorb the odor. . . That's what works for us!

diaper champ. it's been great. i only notice the smell when it's getting time to change the bag. i spray with lysol and stinky diapers go in bags first. that has worked really well. every once in a while i wash the whole thing down. it is very easy to use also.

uh, I use a regular trash can with a lid, but I shake out the solids into the potty before throwing a diaper in the trash. And of course, I don't throw the cloth diapers away. I've found that if I do this, the smell is pretty non-existent. And since we only use disposables part-time, it's nice that we can leave the diapers in the trash can in his room for awhile before changing it. I also disinfect the trash can every time I empty it. I think that has helped.
