Boo-boo

Today Olivia got her first bloody lip. Nothing bad, really, just a little spurt for a couple minutes. I didn't see what happened, but I believe it involved Phoebe's trying to entice Livvie onto the forbidden stairs. I'm sure there'll be many more to come.

Poor baby has had such a raw bum for several days now. Teething=diarrhea=diaper rash! Actually, it doesn't really look like diaper rash anymore--just red, broken skin. The tea tree oil does nothing to help. Kim (boss) suggests A&D Ointment, as it acts as a barrier between the skin and the... waste. Guess I'll have to pick up a tube of that to try. Any other suggestions?

Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Seriously. I will have to mail some to you.

YES! Butt Paste is the absolute BEST! Meijer has it. I have a coupon link if you want it...

I've heard a lot of people love that butt paste. I'll have to try some. Luke had some pretty nasty red bottoms when he was little, and Desitin cleared it right up (NOT the creamy kind - that just means "less effective, but feels nice and creamy!) Some people don't like Desitin because it's thick and tarry, but it would seriously relieve the burn of the redness after just a few hours and would clear it up. I think the thing to look for is 40% zinc oxide - most other cream have only 10%. Walmart has an equate version that is exactly like Desitin and works just as well.

I'm with katie on the desitin. But I like the creamy kind that says "overnight relief" on the tube. It worked wonders on chloe overnight!

I've heard good things about the Butt Paste too! Never tried it, though . . .

I've had good results with Burt's Bees diaper rash cream and my current favorite is the diaper rash salve from www.northernessence.com. I use cloth diapers quite a bit, and it doesn't leave stains or residue on the fleece lining of the diapers. It works really well. I've tried the kind with tea tree oil and am now using the kind without--I like the citrus smell of that kind better.

Hope you find something that will heal Livvie's sore little bum! :)

Usually, Creamy Overnight Desitin does the trick. But it doesn't do a thing for her open sores.

I'll have to make a list of all these options... first, though, it appears that I need to get a hold of some Butt Paste! :)

Advice from a mommy to be:
I read that simple Vaseline works well too.
You probably already know this, but our birthing teacher advised us that when we put the cream on to not wipe off & reapply between changings. Also, to not use wipes, but a warm washrag/papertowel & water (baby soap if desired). The alcohol in the wipes can irritate it more.

connor has had VVVVVVVERY sensitive skin since day one. there have been many, many open sores and pure red bottoms on that poor boy. i tried TONS of stuff: a+d, butt paste, desitin, you name it i tried it.
then a friend let me borrow something of hers---amazing!! it's called flanders buttocks ointment. she found it down south in sc. it is the only thing that has worked on connor. i haven't been able to find it anywhere around here, but i asked the pharmacy counter at cvs and they ordered it for me. it's $8 for a 4oz tube so i only use it on the worst rashes, but it's a wonder overnight. i can use sensitive wipes now, but i used to just wash him with a warm wet wash cloth and let him dry super dry before i put the stuff on. i really glob it on the affected area too. i love that stuff. hope you find something that works.

I have always sworn by desitin. It may be a little expensive, but for as little as you have to use it to clear up rashes, it's worth it! Diaper Genie- LOVE it and wouldn't live without it!! Cannot STAND the smell of most baby nurseries (especially CHURCH ones). I rarely smell anything in Gage's room, and if you just use it for the "icky" ones, those expensive inserts last quite a while!
Livvie has got to be one of the most beautiful children I have EVER seen! She's gorgeous, Karen.
